Bianca McCarthy completed her Ph.D. in Sydney, Australia, in the field of physiology, specializing in novel topical treatments for sunlight-induced skin damage. She continued down this path of research, but this time in Japan, working for a large cosmetics company. Here, she was responsible for developing new technologies and solutions to improve the skin condition. Now, she works collaboratively with researchers and marketers at cosmetic brands across the Asia Pacific to support the creation of beauty innovations.
Suzanne Holguin is currently teaching Religion at Seisen International school in Tokyo, Japan. Suzanne holds a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Arizona State University and has extensive years experience in the field of international education, particularly with middle years students. In her presentation Suzanne will focus on issues of identity and personal bias in education.
Lynda Thompson is currently the Deputy Head (Pastoral) at Greengates School in Mexico. Her previous posts have included IBDP Co-ordinator and Head of Mathematics. Her varied career spans both UK and international schools in primary and secondary phases, with experience of the IB and UK curriculum, including involvement with initial teacher training and staff development. Her interests include; the role of culture in learning, conceptions and pre-conceptions of learners and educators, increasing motivation through active student engagement, curriculum development, in-context learning, She is currently working towards her Ed. D. in International Education at the University of Bath. Ms. Thompson will co-present with Franceso Banchino on the role of creativity in educational leadership.
Francesco Banchini is currently CEO and Director at the European Azerbaijan School. He holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Management from the University of Bath. Mr. Banchini will co-present with Lynda Thompson on the role of creativity in educational leadership.
Conrad Hughes (MA, PhD, EdD) is Campus and Secondary Principal at the International School of Geneva, La Grande Boissière where he teaches philosophy. He is also a member of the advisory board for the University of the People and research assistant at the University of Geneva's department of psychology and education. Conrad's publications include Understanding Prejudice and Education: The Challenge for Future Generations (2017, Routledge) and Educating for the 21st Century: Seven Global Challenges (2018, Brill). His most recent book, Education and Elitism (Routledge), comes out in 2021.
Debra Williams-Gualandi has worked in the field of international education for over 25 years, as educator, curriculum developer, principal and director. She holds a doctorate in international education from the University of Bath and is a lecturer in international education for aspiring teachers at NHLStenden University of Applied Sciences in The Netherlands. Her research interests lie in the areas of teacher beliefs, intercultural learning, dialogic strategies and the social psychology of identity development.
